Originally born in the nation’s capitol, Captain Brendan grew up in Norfolk, VA where he was lucky enough to be introduced to the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Every summer included a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and at age 11 he learned to sail at a summer camp held at the local university of ODU (taught by soon to be Olympic sailors!).
Brendan ended up racing small sailboats – FJs and 420s – for Maury High School and learned to drive his father’s powerboat well before he even got his driver’s license. From there he went on to William and Mary to study Philosophy in order to really propel his maritime career. It was immediately after graduating in the winter of 2010 that he jumped ship on winter for good and moved to St. Thomas.
Since then, Brendan has been able to call St Thomas home while making a living on the water. Initially working at Island Sol teaching sailing and windsurfing, Brendan traveled in the off-seasons -helping sail boats to and from the states, around the Caribbean, or even across the Atlantic.
After a few years, Brendan earned his Captain’s License and has been running charter boats for the past five years. You can now find him sailing and living aboard his hurricane Irma-salvaged sailboat on the east end of St. Thomas.
If you’ve been chartering in the Virgin Islands before and are looking for off-the-beaten path spots, or are here for the first time and are looking to check out the highlights, Captain Brendan can take you there!
